Men's Tennis Team Starts Competition In Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky.-----The UAB Blazers completed their first day of competition at the 2002 Omni Hotels Region III Championships in Lexington, Ky.

In the singles main draw round of 128, Ruben Zrihen defeated Jorge Lievano of Tulane, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2. Dino Mancarella, also a winner for UAB, beat Evalds Jurans of Western Kentucky, 6-3, 6-2. Patrick Suhrbier was defeated by Lewis Smith of Vanderbilt, 6-1, 6-4.

In the singles main draw round of 64, Zrihen was defeated by Matthew Lockin of Vanderbilt, 6-3, 6-2. Central Florida's Gabriel Strangberg beat Dino Mancarella, 6-4, 6-2.

Competition continues at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex on Saturday and Sunday in Lexington, Ky.
