Women's Tennis Defeats Samford, 7-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB women's tennis team (8-4, 2-1) defeated Samford, 7-0, in a match that was rained out on March 6, here on Saturday afternoon.
"Today was our last home match of the season," said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga. "I was a bit worried because of lack of practice the last few days due to weather conditions. Pleasantly, my players seemed less worried than I and were able to put up a high standard of play and take care of business swiftly."
The doubles point was decided on March 6 before the postponement, as UAB won at all three positions. At the No. 1 position, UAB's Femke de Boer and Yvonne Ernst defeated the Bulldog's Emily Nunnally and Katie Crawford, 8-5. Blazers Natascha Immele and Julia Hoch won in the No. 2 slot, beating Samford's Lisa Stertzer and Jenn Pharr, 8-2. In the No. 3 tilt, the Blazer duo of Nadia Dellarciprete and Ornischa Maier-Knapp were victorious over Bulldog's Jenny Walls and Jaime Aid, 8-2.
In singles play, UAB took all six matches. The Blazers' Immele defeated Samford's Nunnally, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 1 position. In No. 2 singles, UAB's de Boer beat Bulldog Crawford, 6-2, 6-4. In the No. 3 tilt, Blazer Ernst won against Samford's Stertzer, 6-2, 6-2. UAB's Maier-Knapp was victorious over Bulldog Pharr, 6-3, 6-0, in the No. 4 spot. Blazer Hoch won at the No. 5 position, defeating Samford's Walls, 6-1, 6-1. Finally, UAB's Dellarciprete beat Bulldog Aid, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 6 tilt.
Next, UAB travels to face Alabama on Saturday, March 22, at noon in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
