Amanda Byrne Named To C-USA All-Freshmen Team

HOUTSON---UAB softball player Amanda Byrne was selected to the Conference USA All-Freshman team by a vote of league's head coaches, here Wednesday.
Byrne is a third baseman from Vancouver, Washington and currently leads UAB in conference play with a .294 batting average and a .385 on base percentage. She has seen action in 38 games this season, starting in 32 of them for the Blazers.
"It's very impressive that as a freshman Amada Byrne leads the team in hitting against conference opponents and has the mental toughness of an experienced collegiate player," said UAB head coach Marla Townsend.
Recently, Byrne lead the Blazers in a three-game C-USA series against Charlotte when she batted .556 with a double. During the series she had a .667 slugging percentage and .600 on base percentage.
Byrne and the rest of the Blazers will be in action on Thursday at the C-USA tournament when it goes head-to-head with Houston starting at 2:30 p.m.
