Brittany Holman Hodge, a pitcher who posted a perfect 29-0 record in 2003, from Edgewood Academy in Wetumpka, Ala., has signed a national letter of intent to play softball at UAB, according to an announcement by UAB head coach Marla Townsend.
Holman Hodge is the second signee for the Blazers during the current signing period. Lindsay Stanley, from Clay-Chalkville High School, signed with UAB last week. Stanley was an outstanding outfielder for the Cougars and helped lead Clay-Chalkville to a third-place finish in the 2003 Alabama State Tournament.
"The UAB softball staff is looking forward to Brittany's arrival on campus," said Townsend. "She is an extremely hard worker and competitor. The difference from playing in high school and college competition should be a smooth transition for Brittany."
Holman Hodge recorded 332 strikeouts in 174 innings pitched and had a 0.08 ERA in 2003. She was also a force at the plate, finishing the season with a .475 batting average. Holman Hodge was a member of Edgewood's AISA AA State Championship team in 2001, 2002 and 2003. In addition she was named MVP of the AISA AA State Softball Tournament for those three years. Holman Hodge is a three-year member of the all-state team, as well as a four-year member of the all-metro team. She was named the Montgomery Advertiser's Player of the Year in 2002 and 2003 and the Raymond James Blue Chip Player of the Year in 2003. Also, Holman Hodge finished second in the AISA Power Lifting Competition.
