BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB cross country team will participate in its third meet of the season on Saturday, Sept. 18, when it travels to Western Kentucky for the Old Timers Classic.
Elizabeth Ambrus captured the individual title as she led the Blazers to a second-place finish at the Memphis Twi-Light Cross Country Classic in UAB's last meet last Saturday. Ambrus ran a time of 16:59.11 to beat runner-up Katarina Lovrantova of Arkansas-Little Rock (17:09.01) in the individual standings. Ambrus was named Conference USA Co-Athlete of the Week for her efforts. UAB (61 points) finished just behind Mississippi State (58) in the team standings.
UAB and the Lady Toppers met earlier this season at the Belmont Opener on Sept. 3. The Blazers placed fourth overall, while WKU was seventh.
Although no team stats were kept at last year's event, Western Kentucky placed three runners in the top-10, with then-senior Bonita Paul placing first overall in the 6K meet.
This will be the 23rd annual event and is being held at Kereiakes Park in Bowling Green, Ky., with the women's college race expected to begin at approximately 10 a.m.
