UAB Cross Country Travels To Memphis For Meet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB cross country team continues its 2004 season this Saturday, Sept. 11, with the Memphis Twilight Classic. The meet will be run in the evening at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex and is hosted by Christian Brothers University.
UAB is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Belmont Invitational on Sept. 4. The Blazers had four runners finish in the top 20 in the event. Sophomore Elizabeth Ambrus was UAB's top finisher, placing third overall in the 4K run. Sophomore Jennifer Thompson placed 11th overall, while freshmen Elizabeth Hilligoss and Petra Ivanova placed 17th and 20th in their first collegiate cross country meets.
The Classic will include approximately 25 college squads from around the Southeast and Midwest. Competing in the meet will be several other major Division I schools. These include perennial power Mississippi State, Conference USA foe Memphis and Ohio Valley Conference contenders Southeast Missouri and Eastern Kentucky. In all, nearly 1200 runners are expected for the event.
The women's college race is expected to begin at approximately 8:30 p.m.
