MURFREESBORO, Tenn. --- The UAB men's tennis team (12-9, 3-1) was defeated by Middle Tennessee, 4-0, here on Sunday afternoon, as the Blue Raiders won all four completed singles matches.
In the No. 1 tilt, UAB's Anton Mavrin lost to the Blue Raiders' Kirk Jackson, 6-3, 7-5. At the No. 2 position, Middle Tennessee's Andreas Siljestrom was a 6-2, 7-6 winner over the Blazers' Andre Maier. In the No. 3 spot, UAB's Sanzaruz Zaman fell to the Blue Raiders' Trevor Short, 6-3, 6-3. In the No. 4 match, Middle Tennessee's Kai Schledorn defeated the Blazers' Kristijan Mitrovski, 6-3, 6-3.
After the match was decided, the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches continued but did not count, as only a pro set was played. In the No. 5 slot, the Blue Raiders' Brandon Allan beat UAB's Ivan Andreev, 8-0. At the No. 6 position, Middle Tennessee's Anant Sitaram defeated the Blazers' Dino Mancarella, 8-4.
Next, UAB will participate in the 2004 Conference USA Championships in Memphis, Tenn., beginning on April 15.
