UAB Women's Tennis Beats Saint Louis, 4-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The UAB women's tennis team, the No. 11 seed, defeated 14th-seeded Saint Louis, 4-1, in the consolation round of the Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship on Friday at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
"We played well today," said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga. "I thought we were deeper than Saint Louis and that was the difference. We'll have to play better to beat Memphis."
UAB (12-14, 5-6) won the doubles point by taking the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. In the No. 2 spot, the Blazers' Annemieke Elsholz and Julia von Samson were 8-4 winners over Saint Louis' Katerina Loaznova and Ana Renda. At the No. 3 position, UAB's Nadia Dellarciprete and Samrin Tanzeem beat the Billikens' Rebecca Steer and Lindsay Winninger, 8-4. The No. 1 doubles match was stopped after UAB clinched the point.
The Blazers tallied three singles wins in the lower part of the lineup for the victory. At the No. 5 slot, the Blazers' Dellarciprete was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Saint Louis' Steer. In the No. 6 spot, UAB's Tanzeem beat the Billikens' Winninger, 6-2, 6-0. In the No. 4 tilt, the Blazers' von Samson clinched the win for UAB when she defeated Saint Louis' Cutler, 6-1, 6-2.
The Billikens' lone point came in the No. 2 position, as Saint Louis' Hellberg was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over UAB's Elsholz.
UAB will now face Memphis at Seneca Park later Friday beginning at 6 p.m.
