UAB Cross Country To Compete At Notre Dame

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB cross country team travels to South Bend, Ind., to participate in the 49th Annual Notre Dame Invitational this Friday, Oct. 1. Five races will take place throughout the afternoon with the Blazers running in the gold division beginning at 2:00 p.m. (EST). The women will run a 5K race at Burke Memorial Golf Course on the Notre Dame Campus.
The Blazers placed six runners in the top 15 as they took first place in 23rd annual Old Timers Classic on Sept. 18. UAB was led by sophomore Elizabeth Ambrus, who took the individual title for the second-consecutive meet. Ambrus claimed the title in the 5K event with a time of 17:11.19. Freshman Elizabeth Hilligoss was fourth overall, while sophomore Jennifer Thompson placed fifth. Sophomore Ryanne Fortney was eighth, while freshmen Petra Ivanova and Whitney Mays placed 11th and 14th respectively.
The Blazers took the team title with 29 points, 10 better than second-place Eastern Kentucky's 39. Western Kentucky was third overall in the eight-school field with a total of 46 points.
