UAB Women's Tennis Falls At Auburn, 6-1

AUBURN, Ala. --- Samrin Tanzeem tallied a win in the No. 4 singles match, but it was not enough, as the UAB women's tennis team fell at Auburn, 6-1. The Tigers recorded victories in two doubles as well as five singles matches.
Tanzeem had a solid 6-1, 6-0, victory over the Tigers' Tori Almagno.
The Blazers (2-2) won the No. 2 doubles match, as UAB's duo Gulseh Esen and Ornischa Maier-Knapp took the match, 8-6, over Jelena Jovic and Tori Almagno in the No. 2 position.
However, UAB was unable to take the points after losses at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots. Petra Bercik and Isabel Rosenbrock were 8-5 winners at No. 1, defeating Julia von Samson and Annemieke Elsholz, while Sarah Suitor and Ashley Cowart beat Jana Wild and Samrin Tanzeem, 8-1, at No. 3.
In singles, Auburn (4-1) tallied straight-set wins at the No. 1 (Jovic), No. 5 (Cowart) and No. 6 (Suitor) spots.
The Tigers' Bercik bounced back from a loss in the first set to UAB's von Samson, clinching the match for Auburn with a 0-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory, in the No. 2 tilt. At the No. 5 position, Tiger Rosenbrock won a close 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 match against UAB's Maier-Knapp.
"We played a team that was better than us today, but we played well," said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga. "We had close matches at several positions. Our doubles play is getting better and I'm especially happy that Samrin got a win. She has worked hard and always stays focused. She is a good example for the rest of the team."
UAB will next be in action Friday when it heads to Birmingham Southern for a 2:30 p.m. match.
