UAB Softball To Host Annual Blazer Bash Weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB softball team will hold its fourth annual Blazer Bash Friday at 6 p.m. CT in the Green and Gold room at Bartow Arena. The event will be an opportunity for Blazer fans to meet the 2005-06 UAB softball team.
"We are looking forward to introducing the 2005-06 UAB Softball team Friday night," UAB head coach Marla Townsend said. "This is a chance for our friends, family, and supporters to get to know the team, share a night of fond memories and to explore future goals of the UAB softball team. It is always fun to face the alumni in our annual Green and Gold Alumni game. They are a very competitive group and will really challenge us on the field"
The Blazer Bash banquet includes dinner and a free t-shirt with reservations. Reservations can be made through UAB assistant coach Jennifer Collins at (205) 975-7880 or by e-mail at softball@uab.edu. During Friday's festivities, past and present members of the Blazer softball team will be recognized by various esteemed members of UAB. Dr. Gauld, Vice President of student affairs, will recognize UAB's NFCA Academic All-Americans and Conference USA Academic Honor winners. After the banquet, everyone is encouraged to attend the UAB men's soccer match being held at West Campus Field.
Saturday morning features the always entertaining Alumni Game starting at 11 a.m. at George Ward Park Field 6. The weekend of events will come to a close Saturday night at the UAB football team's first home game with a tailgate party in the southwest corner of Legion Field prior to kickoff. The Blazers will open the 2006 season at the Centenary College softball tournament. UAB will play a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday before finishing the tournament with one game Sunday. Friday features the Blazers against Arkansas and host Centenary, while Saturday they will face Alcorn State and Nicholls State. Sunday's opponent is still undetermined.
UAB's individual award winners will also be honored on Friday in regards to the numerous accomplishments that were garnered throughout the 2005 season.
