BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- UAB softball team officially wrapped up the fourth annual Blazers Bash last weekend. The Blazer Bash was highlighted by a Friday night banquet and the annual alumni game held Saturday morning at George Ward Park.
"This Blazer Bash was the best to date," said UAB head coach Marla Townsend. "Dr. (Virginia) Gauld updated all in attendance about the wonderful changes taking place on the UAB campus. We had numerous former athletes in attendance. Saturday, we had 15 alumni playing in the Green and Gold Alumni Game. We surprised our athletes by having members of the audience ask them questions after they introduced themselves. We also had a slide show presentation recapping the 2005 season. It really was a great weekend for UAB Softball. We are very fortunate to have a large group of supporters."
The weekend of events came to a close Saturday night with a tailgate party at the UAB football game against Jacksonville State.
UAB will host two fall tournaments this year in preparation for the 2006 season. The Blazers return 11 players from the 2005 team and welcome seven newcomers. UAB opens its 2006 season in the Centenary College Softball Tournament on Feb. 17-19 in Shreveport, La.
