UAB Softball Hosts Fall Tournaments

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB softball team will host the WORTH Fall Tournament this weekend at George Ward Park Field 6. The tournament is the first of two tournaments the Blazers host, as they continue to prepare for their 2006 season.
"We are looking forward to our 2006 season and traveling to several new cities," said UAB head coach Marla Townsend. "After this past weekend we are ready to get the season started. My athletes are working hard in hopes of having a great season and making it to the post season."
Along with UAB, the tournament will include Bevill State, West Georgia, Wallace State, Gadsden State and Southern Union. The Blazers open tournament play at 8:30 a.m. CT against Bevill State. Each team will play three games Saturday with the last game of the day at 8:30 p.m. between Wallace State and Southern Union.
On Oct. 1, UAB will host its final tournament of the fall. The tournament, also sponsored by Worth, will be a four-team field with a guaranteed three games for each school. Games will begin at 9 a.m. with Jefferson State against UAB. Other teams in the tournament are Alabama-Southern and UAH.
UAB will open its 2006 season in the Centenary College Softball Tournament on Feb. 17-19 in Shreveport, La.
