UAB Places 11th At Great American Cross Country Festival

CARY, N.C. --- Junior Jennifer Thompson led the UAB cross country team to an 11th-place finish in the Nike Race of Champions at the Great American Cross Country Festival here Saturday morning.
Thompson placed 43rd in the 5K run with a time of 18:32.70. She was followed by Elizabeth Ambrus in 52nd, after completing the race in 18:48.60. Sophomore Whitney Mays ran the course in 19:02.30, finishing 63rd. Junior Ryanne Fortney was 80th overall, recording a time of 19:37.30, while Elizabeth Hilligoss placed 106th with a time of 21:10.50.
UAB had three freshmen running in their first collegiate 5K race. Jakia Williams was 73rd overall with a time of 19:18.20, while Katie Stepp ran a time of 20:04.40, to place 90th. Additionally, Tara Gruber placed 108th overall, recording a time of 21:29.30.
The Blazers tallied 260 points in the event. Duke finished first in the 12-team race, scoring 20 points, while BYU was second with 68 points.
