UAB To Participate In Notre Dame Cross Country Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB will travel to South Bend, Ind., for the 50th Annual Notre Dame Cross Country Invitational, to be held Friday afternoon at the on-campus Notre Dame Golf Course. The Blazers will compete in the women's 5K Blue Division event, scheduled for 4:15 p.m. A total of 58 schools will be sending either or both their men's and women's teams to the Notre Dame Invitational.
UAB will be competing against 23 other Division I-A programs, including eight teams currently ranked in the top-30 nationally. Those include Notre Dame (No. 3), Michigan (No. 5), Arkansas (No. 10), Wake Forest (No. 12), Illinois (No. 20), Missouri (No. 24), Florida State (No. 28) and Michigan State (No. 29).
Last year, the Blazers finished 16th overall in the women's blue division, as UAB competed against 24 teams. Elizabeth Ambrus was the Blazers' top finisher, as she placed 23rd overall in the field of 195.
The Blazers are coming off an 11th-place finish at the Great American Cross Country Festival Saturday in Cary, N.C. Junior Jennifer Thompson led UAB in the Nike Race of Champions division, placing 43rd in the 5K run. The Blazers tallied 260 points in the event. Duke finished first in the 12-team race, scoring 20 points, while BYU was second with 68 points.
