Blazers End Regular Season By Beating Middle Tennessee, 4-3

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. --- The UAB women's tennis team ran its winning streak to five-consecutive matches with a 4-3 victory over Middle Tennessee at the Buck Boldin Tennis Complex Friday afternoon.
"I'm happy to end the season with a win," said head Mert Ertunga. "We were lucky to come away with the win because we didn't play particularly well. We just have to focus and get ready for the conference championships."
The Blazers (12-5, 2-1) started things off by winning the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3. In the No. 1 tilt, UAB's Annemieke Elsholz and Julia von Samson were 8-2 winners over Claudia Szabo and Marlene Chemin. The Blue Raiders tied things up as Ann-Kristin Siljestrom and Elvira Yusupova beat UAB's Gulsah Esen and Ornischa Maier-Knapp, 8-6, at the No. 2 position. The Blazers' Antonia Nugent and Samrin Tanzeem gave UAB the point with a 9-8 (3) victory over Kelly Adam and Pooja Kommireddi in the No. 3 slot.
UAB then won three singles matches to seal the win. In the No. 1 match, UAB's Maier-Knapp extended her own winning streak to eight-straight matches by tallying a 6-2, 6-1 win over Szabo. Next, in the No. 5 singles, UAB's Nugent recorded a 6-4, 6-0 win against Adams. Finally, in the No. 4 spot, Blazer Esen was a 7-5, 6-0 winner over Yusupova, sealing the win for UAB.
Middle Tennessee then tallied two-consecutive victories. At the No. 3 tilt, Blazer Elsholz fell to Siljestrom, 6-1, 0-6, 6-4, while UAB's Tanzeem was beaten by Kommireddi, 5-7, 6-0, 10-7, in the No. 6 position. Finally, von Samson was downed by Chemin, 7-6, 6-7, 10-6, in the No. 2 slot.
UAB next heads to Dallas, Texas for the Conference USA Championships beginning Thursday.
