BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- UAB senior Chelsea McCall has excelled as a student-athlete throughout her career and was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team Thursday. McCall received second-team all-district IV honors and became the first Blazer to win such an award.
"What an outstanding honor and I couldn't be more proud of her both on and off the field," said UAB head coach Marla Townsend. "She has been a tremendous student-athlete throughout her career and the honor is well deserved. She has been able to excel in the classroom but has also developed into a great leader."
McCall has started every game in the outfield for the Blazers and has a .977 fielding percentage this season. She is hitting .320 in 172 at-bats and has four triples in 2006 which leads Conference USA. In her career, she has been named to five different tournament teams. She has earned a 4.0 GPA in each of the last three semesters and was named a 2004 and 2005 NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete. Over the last two years, she has been named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll and received Presidential Honors.
The Academic All-America and All-District squads are selected by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
