BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB cross country team, winners of its first two meets of the 2006 season, will be back in action Saturday when the Blazers take part in the Great American Cross Country Festival at Spain Park High School in Hoover, Ala.
The Festival is a one-day event and includes 23 cross country races, featuring Nikes' Great Races of America for high schools and colleges.
For UAB, this is its first competition since the Blazers took a team mainly of freshmen to the UAH Invitational two weeks ago in Huntsville. UAB won that meet as freshman Kristina Olsen took the individual title. A week earlier, the Blazers had opened the '06 campaign by winning the Belmont Opener in Nashville, Tenn., defeating three-time SEC champion Tennessee in the process.
When the Blazers run Saturday at Spain Park, they will field a team in both university division races. The "B" division race is scheduled to start at 8:55 a.m. with the "A" division at 10:55. UAB will be joined by 14 other schools in the "A" division race, including No. 5-ranked Brigham Young, Clemson, South Carolina, Florida State and UCF.
