BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB cross country team, off to an outstanding start this fall, will face its stiffest test of the young season Friday when the Blazers run in the 51st Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
The Blazers are one of 54 schools competing in either the men's or women's competitions on the Notre Dame Golf Course. Both the men's and women's meets are divided into two different competitions.
UAB will be running Friday at 4:15 p.m. ET in the Women's Blue Division which features 19 teams, including seven that are ranked in this week's USTFCCCA poll. The highest-ranking school in the competition is No. 3 Michigan. Seventh-ranked Illinois is also among the entries.
Facing ranked teams is nothing new for the Blazers. UAB, which has won all three of its meets this season, has defeated Tennessee (at Belmont Opener in Nashville) and BYU (at last week's Great American Cross Country Festival) in the past month. The Volunteers have been ranked in the nation's top 15 this season and are three-time defending Southeastern Conference champions. BYU came into last Saturday's meet with a lofty national ranking of No. 5.
