Olsen Named Scholar-Athlete of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Kristina Olsen of the UAB cross country team has been named this week's UAB Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Olsen was named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll last year and also earned All-Conference USA honors in 2006 by finishing 14th at the C-USA Championship to help the Blazers finish first.
The sophomore has become one of the Blazers' top runners this year. She has competed in four meets and has had two top-five finishes. She helped the Blazers take the title at the Crimson Classic with a fifth place finish and 5K personal best time of 18:11.70.
Her highest finish of the season came two weeks ago when she placed third at the Tiger Twilight Invitational. Olsen also recorded a 4K personal best time of 15:23.39 at the Belmont Opener, where she placed 25th.
The native of Jackson, Mich. is a business major at UAB.
The Blazers will compete in the Conference USA Championship on Sunday in El Paso, Texas.
