UAB Synchro Places Fourth at Collegiate Nationals

NORTON, Mass. - The UAB synchronized swimming team finished fourth at the 2007 Collegiate National Championship this past weekend. The Blazers week was highlighted by a fourth place finish in the team competition.
Stanford won the championship by finishing with 97 points and Ohio State was second with 84 points. Finishing just ahead of the Blazers was Incarnate Word at 68 points, slightly in front of UAB which finished with 61 points. Canisius rounded out the top five with its 59.5 points.
Members of UAB's fourth place team routine were seniors Andrea Dash, Vanessa Dash and Sara Petrov, juniors Frances Halloran and Maria Cecilia Garcia and sophomore Meryl Grandia. The group finished with a mark of 94.500.
The Blazers posted a number of sixth place finishes at the championship. Garcia was sixth in the solo event with a score of 90.333, while Grandia and Petrov were sixth in the duet competition with a score of 90.833. Also placing in the duet event was Halloran and Garcia who finished in a tie for seventh.
In the trio competition, UAB got another sixth place finish after Halloran, Grandia and Petrov posted a score of 90.833.
The Blazers will finish up their 2007 campaign April 25-28 when they travel to Indianapolis for the U.S. Nationals Championship.
