BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After two weeks off the UAB cross country team heads back into action on Saturday at the Greater Louisville Classic. The Blazers are looking to continue their success this season after taking third place in the first two meets of the year.
"We've been training really well," said UAB head coach Ray Stanfield. "We've had two great weeks of workouts. I expect us to run well at this meet."
The 5K meet will feature 34 teams including Louisville, Texas, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Eastern Kentucky and Southern Illinois. The course was the site of the NCAA Southeast Regional in 2007.
"It's a good, fast course," said Stanfield. "There will be some good competition this week. We have to be good with our top runners. We are a deep team but we will need that depth this week."
Leading the way for the Blazers this season is sophomore Stephanie Gammon. The two-time Conference USA Cross Country Athlete of the Week has finished first for UAB at the first two meets of the season. She placed fourth at the Belmont Opener and 11th at the Memphis Twilight.
The race is scheduled to start at 10:15 a.m. CDT.
