Blazer men's tennis trio advance at Seminole Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ----- The UAB men's tennis team had a trio of players -- Dan Cornei, Alex Emery and Daniel Moser -- advance to Sunday's B Division quarterfinal round of singles at the Seminole Invitational.
The Blazers also had a doubles team advance to Sunday's quarters as Emery and Brian Ly won their opening round match as they upset the tournament's defending champ, the duo of Clint Bowles and Jean-Yves Aubone of host Florida State, 9-8 (4). They now will take on the Miami duo of Keith Crowley and Ignacio Taboada.
In B Division singles, Cornei won a pair of matches as he downed Mark Paetz of Georgia Southern, 6-2, 6-1 in his first round match before coming back to defeat Florida A&M's Marc Atkinson, 6-0, 6-1.
Emery had a first round singles bye but then advanced with his 6-0, 7-6 (4) victory over Michael O'Shea of Florida State.
Moser was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over FAMU's Simbarashe Happy in first round play before defeating Wesley Powell of Georgia Southern, 6-0, 6-1.
In the A Division draw, UAB's Thomas Petrich lost his first round match to No. 1 seed Austen Childs of Louisville, 6-4, 7-5. Meanwhile, the Blazers' Ly also was defeated in his first round A Dvision singles match, galling to Tyler Hochwait of Florida, the tournament's No. 5 seed, 7-5, 6-2.
UAB's John Hollimon lost to Ryan Farlow of Mississippi State, 6-1, 6-3, in first round B draw action.
In A doubles, Cornei and Petrich fell to Carlos Cueto and Joey Burkhardt of Florida, 8-2. In the B Division, Moser and Hollimon were 8-3 losers to FSU's team of O'Shea and Bobby Deye.
