TALLAHASSEE, Fla. --- The UAB softball team dropped its final game of the Seminole Classic, 4-1, to host school Florida State University on Sunday.
The Blazers (7-4) rallied in the top of the sixth to tie the score at 1-1, before a three-run homer for the Seminoles (5-4) helped settle the affair.
"Right now we are a team that is up one day and down the second," Townsend said. "We still haven't been able to put two games back-to-back."
Florida State capitalized on a Blazers' error in the third inning to score the game's first run. Ashley Stager reached on mishandled throw by Laura Callaway that would have ended the frame. She would score on a double down the left field line to give FSU a 1-0 lead.
The Seminoles had a chance to add runs in the fifth inning, with two runners on base and one out. Jennifer Nelson would come up with her two biggest strikeouts of the game, leaving the Blazers in striking distance.
Nelson (4-3) struck out six but walked four batters, in her third start of the tournament.
UAB's rally in the sixth began with Walker reaching on a base on balls and advancing to second on an errant throw by the Seminole's catcher. Holly Krzan would plate her home with a double to the right field wall, tying the score at 1-1.
FSU took the lead for good with Snyder's three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.
The Blazers finished the tournament with a 2-2 record, while Holly Krzan, Andrea Rogers and Leigh Walker were named to the Seminole Classic All-Tournament Team. Krzan hit .500 for the weekend, Walker walked five times and was 3-of-7 at the plate and Rogers hit .400.
Errors hurt UAB, who committed four errors in the loss and ten in the tournament's four games. The Blazers are 1-3 when committing more than two errors.
"There is no doubt that errors hurt us in this tournament," Townsend said. "When you commit as many errors as we did, it's hard to win any games, let alone two."
UAB opens its home schedule at George Ward Park Tuesday afternoon with a doubleheader against Kennesaw State beginning at 4 p.m.
