HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - The UAB women's basketball team earned a 60-48 win at Marshall Saturday evening in the Blazers' final road game of the regular season. Junior guard Britney Jones paced UAB with 19 points.
UAB improves to 13-14 overall and 9-5 in Conference USA. Marshall falls to 14-14 overall and 6-8 in league play.
The Blazers shot 39.3 percent for the game, including 36.0 percent from three-point range and 70.0 percent from the free throw line.
Jones' 19 points were accompanied by three rebounds, four steals and three assists. Senior guard Crystal McFadden had 14 points and game-high numbers in rebounding (8) and assists (6).
Marshall hit 26.4 percent from the field overall, including 14.3 percent from beyond the arc and 78.3 percent from the charity stripe.
Alyssa Hammond was the lone player to score in double figures for the Thundering Herd with 12 points. Alix Barnette was close behind with nine points for Marshall.
"Tonight was a total team effort," said UAB head coach Audra Smith. "Every player on our team stepped up and got a big road win.
"Most importantly, we got it done on the defensive end tonight. We also crashed the boards and outrebounded them.
"This was a very important win since we have just two games remaining in the regular season. We need to take care of business the rest of the regular season and make sure we finish in the top four in the conference to get a first round bye in the C-USA tournament."
Up next for the Blazers is a Conference USA contest with UCF Thursday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT at Bartow Arena.
