UAB Synchro Downs Arizona And Georgia Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB synchronized swimming team scored 88 points to oust Georgia (34) and Arizona (27) inside the Bell Aquatics Center on Saturday. UAB won all four events with juniors Meryl Grandia and Margareta Jakovac each winning three events.
UAB placed first and second in the trio routine as Grandia and freshmen Shaina Boe and Brittany McCauley won the event with a score of 86.250, while freshmen Mikayla Cansler, Michele Rushfeldt and Jami Schwendau finished second with a mark of 84.500.
In the duet routine, Grandia and Jakovac garnered the crown with a score of 86.500, while senior Frances Halloran, McCauley and Boe finished second with a score of 85.500. Arizona finished third in the event.
Jakovac came back and won her second event of the day in the solo routine, taking top honors with a score of 89.250. Freshman Talia Scatliff was second in the routine with a score of 87.750. Georgia finished third in the event.
UAB finished off its clean sweep with a first place finish in the team competition. UAB won the event with a score of 91.500, while Arizona was second. Competing in the team routine for UAB were Boe, freshman Stephanie Cardwell, Grandia, Halloran, Jakovac, freshman Georgia Luch, McCauley and Rushfeldt.
The three teams will be back in action inside the Bell Aquatics Center on Sunday at 1o:00 a.m.
