Women's Tennis Shuts Out UTEP

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The UAB women's tennis team defeated UTEP, 4-0, in Memphis on Saturday. Seniors Gulsah Esen and Antonia Nugent and freshman Jenny Cape all won singles and doubles matches against the Miners.
UAB improves to 8-4 (2-2 C-USA) with the win.
"This was one of our better performances this season," said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga. "I am especially happy for Jenny and Antonia, who both played extremely well today, despite having some tough losses in their last few matches. Their hard work has paid off, as it should."
The Blazers won the doubles point by winning all three matches.
Nugent and freshman Evelien Strijker won 9-7 at No. 1 against Weronika Bloczynska and Megan Pritchard. At flight two, Esen and freshman Giorgia Romeo beat Ximtha Fuentes and Murina Deluca, 8-2, and at No. 3, senior Seden Soyalp and Cape beat Amber Brightly and Vicky Michaud, 8-5.
Esen defeated Deluca, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Nugent won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 against Pritchard. Cape earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Fuentas at flight four.
Singles flights one, five and six did not finish.
The Blazers will play their last match of the weekend on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. against Memphis.
