UAB Shines at Southern Miss Fall Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. ----- Four UAB men's tennis players won their singles flights with one doubles team doing the same in doubles here Saturday on the second day of the Southern Miss Fall Invitational.
Brian Ly was winner again in singles, defeating USM's Patricio Alvarado, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, en route to claiming the No. 1 flight. Alex Emery defeated another Southern Miss player, Martin Wessinghage by a 7-5, 6-2 score, and won the No. 4 singles flight.
Meanwhile freshman Daniel Moser took the No. 5 crown with a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) victory over the Golden Eagles' Andrew Poole. At No. 6 singles, Dan Cornei won the flight as he rallied for a 1-6, 7-6, 6-1 win over Diego Machuca.
In doubles, the duo of Tyrone Ewels and Moser won the No. 2 title by defeating the Southeastern Louisiana team of Guillaume Capouin and Paul Derkay, 8-2.
Junior Thomas Petrich dropped his singles match Saturday, falling to USM's Domagoj Anic, 6-3, 6-0. Finally, Blazer John Hollimon lost a straight-setter (6-2, 6-2) to the Eagles' Jan Burmeister.
