LINCOLN, Neb. - The UAB women's soccer team dropped its match at Nebraska, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at the Nebraska Soccer Field.
The Blazers move to 0-5 on the year, while Nebraska improves to 1-4.
Nebraska got on the board in the 21st minute when Shay Powell knocked in an unassisted goal. Less than two minutes later, Molly Thomas put one in the net to give the Cornhuskers a 2-0 lead going into the half.
The lone goal of the second half was courtesy of Powell, with her second score of the game, to give Nebraska the 3-0 victory over UAB.
"After giving up the first two goals, I thought we played extremely well," said UAB head coach Paul Harbin. "It was an even, end-to-end match the rest of the game.
"Of the teams that we have played thus far, Nebraska is probably the most complete team that we have played. They are very athletic, skillful and hard working.
"I am proud of the way our team came together today. We played with a lot of pride and emotion, unfortunately the score does not reflect that. I'm not pleased with the result, but I am very pleased with the effort today."
The Cornhuskers topped the Blazers in shots, 22-9. Nebraska had 11 shots on goal, compared to five for UAB.
Junior forward Danya Barsalona paced UAB in shots with four, including three shots on goal. Five other Blazers nabbed on shot each. Powell led Nebraska with six shots, all on goal.
"We kept the ball on the ground today, which is something that we have been working on," said Barsalona. "We worked well together as a team today. We made good chances for ourselves, but we just couldn't finish off and win."
Redshirt freshman Ashley Park (0-2) received the loss in goal for UAB, allowing three goals and making eight saves on the day. Goalkeeper Brittany Pfeil tallied four saves and earned the win for the Cornhuskers.
UAB will be back in action on Friday when it hosts the Wright State Raiders on the first day of the UAB Nike Classic. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at West Campus Field.
"We're excited to come home and play," said sophomore midfielder Marie Yempuku. "We play really well at home and we get a lot of support from our fans."
