BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB's Stephanie Gammon has been named the Conference USA Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week. The sophomore posted a fourth-place finish at the Belmont Opener in Nashville, Tenn. last Friday.
In the first meet of the season, Gammon finished the 4k course setting a personal-best time of 14:41.55. She led the Blazers to a third-place finish among the 12-team field. Her previous best at the event was 15:02.49 set in 2007.
"Stephanie ran well at Belmont," said head coach Ray Stanfield. "She had a great summer. Her future here at UAB is bright and I am glad she is a Blazer."
This is the first time the Central, S.C. native has been named the C-USA Cross Country Athlete of the Week.
UAB will compete again Saturday at the Memphis Twilight in Tennessee.
