BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Heather Pearson, an infielder from Kell High School in Marietta, Ga., has committed to play softball for UAB starting in 2011.
"Heather will be a great addition to our incoming freshman class of 2010," UAB head coach Marla Townsend said. "She is an outstanding athlete that can contribute to our team in many ways."
Pearson, who sat out her junior year due to injury, racked up multiple accolades during her freshman and sophomore seasons at Kell High School.
The Kennesaw, Ga. native received all-county honorable mentions from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Marietta Daily Journal in 2007 and 2008
Pearson was also named Kell High School's Best Offensive Player in 2007 and received the Longhorn Award for her leadership during the 2008 season.
"Heather caught our eye years ago and we consider ourselves lucky to have landed such a well-rounded student-athlete," Townsend said.
At the 2008 16U fastpitch softball national tournament, Pearson posted impressive statistics including a .400 batting average and a .433 on-base percentage. She also recorded two doubles, five RBIs and four runs.
During the summer and fall Pearson plays for the East Cobb Bullets coached by Gautney.
