BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Stephanie Gammon, a junior member of the cross country team, has been selected as the UAB Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
Gammon, an exercise science major with a 3.83 overall GPA, was selected to the Conference USA All-Academic Team as a sophomore in 2007-08. Additionally, the Central, S.C., product earned recognition on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and received the league's academic medal.
Athletically, Gammon is in her third year as one of the Blazers' top runners. Two weeks ago, she helped UAB win the Earl Jacoby Memorial in Huntsville, Ala., by placing second individually behind only teammate Rhiannon Johns. Last season, Gammon was the top runner for UAB in every race, including three top-10 finishes, on her way to third-team all-conference honors.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Sunday night on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:35 p.m. on ABC 33/40.
Gammon and her teammates return to action this weekend for their third event with a trip to Minneapolis, Minn., to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational. In addition to their win at the Earl Jacoby, the Blazers finished in third place at the Belmont Opener in their first competition of the fall.
