Rhiannon Johns Named To C-USA All-Academic Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB's Rhiannon Johns has been named to the Conference USA Cross Country All-Academic Team, the league office announced Wednesday. This marks the second time Johns has received the league's all-academic accolade.
A total of six student-athletes were named to the 2010 C-USA All-Academic Women's Cross Country Team, as selected by the league's sports information contacts for cross country. The all-academic team consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a starter or key reserve on their team.
Johns, the only repeat selection on the women's team, boasts a 4.0 grade-point average in her major of mathematics. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, native is a two-time C-USA Academic Medal recipient and C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll selection. She was also tabbed to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine All-District IV Second Team for track and field/cross country.
During the 2010 season, the junior distance runner lowered her personal-record 6K time by almost four minutes at the NCAA South Regional (20:42.22) to earn all-region honors. At the C-USA Championships, Johns finished fifth individually with a personal-record 5K time of 16:55 to earn All-C-USA First Team honors.
She was named C-USA Athlete of the Week on Oct. 12 for the second time in her career after helping UAB claim the team title and taking the individual title at the Samford Invitational with a 5K time of 17:52.53. She placed seventh out of approximately 470 runners at the Chile Pepper XC Festival hosted by Arkansas and finished as the runner-up at the Memphis Twilight Classic.
