Blazer Tennis Team Cruises Past Birmingham-Southern, 7-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB's men's tennis team won the doubles point and then captured five-of-six singles matches in straight sets en route to a 7-0 victory over Birmingham-Southern Monday at the BSC Tennis Complex.
The Blazers evened their dual record at 1-1 with the victory.
UAB yielded only five games in singles play at the No. 2-6 positions. The only match extended to three sets came at No. 1 where Blazer freshman David Zimmerman outlasted Michael Locandro, 6-3, 4-6, 10-6.
The Blazers took a 1-0 lead with a sweep at all three doubles spots. At No. 1, Zimmerman and Dan Cornei downed the Panther duo of Locandro and Richard Pearlman, 8-3. Daniel Moser and Thomas Petrich were 8-3 winners at No. 2 over BSC's Will Freeman and John Zukley while UAB's team of Alex Emery and John Hollimon downed Reed Pilling and Sawyer Voges by an 8-4 score.
Moser, Emery and Petrich all blitzed their opponents in singles play at No. 2, 3 and 4, winning each match, 6-0, 6-0. Moser defeated Pilling, Emery took care of Zukley and Petrich beat Voges.
Cornei nearly blanked his opponent, Pearlman, at No. 2 singles, winning 6-0, 6-1. Hollimon closed out UAB's singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Hanlon Walsh.
UAB returns to action Wednesday with its first home dual match of the season as the Blazers play host to North Alabama (1:00 p.m. CT) at the Lakeshore Tennis Center.
