BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB cross country team has been named one of the NCAA Division 1 All-Academic Teams by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the eighth straight year. The Blazers boasted a 3.29 team cumulative GPA for the 2009 season.
"Academic achievement that leads to professional success is the number one goal of our cross country program," UAB cross country coach Blake Boldon said. "Although these ladies have done a tremendous job athletically with nine of ten getting lifetime bests already in 2010, their work in the classroom is even far more impressive."
A record total of 176 Division I women's programs received USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors, up from 2008's total of 162.
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.
The UAB cross country team ran to an eighth-place finish out of 23 teams at the NCAA South Regional Meet hosted by the University of Alabama on November 14 to finish out its 2009 season.
