ORLANDO, Fla. -- The UAB women's tennis team won the doubles point Sunday but dropped five of the six singles matches in a 5-2 loss at Conference USA foe UCF.
Giorgia Romeo provided the singles point for the Blazers with a 6-2, 6-1 win over UCF's Andrea Yacaman at the No. 3 position. UAB's Jenny Cape fell in three sets at the No. 6 spot, but UAB lost the remainder of the singles matches in straight sets.
In doubles action, UAB picked up wins from Romeo and Evelien Strijker at No. 1 and the tandem of Cape and Paula Alvarez at No. 3 to win the doubles point for the fourth time in its past five matches.
"We played really well in doubles today, and Giorgia was great in her match," UAB head coach Krissy Hall said. "Unfortunately, we just weren't able to carry much momentum over from the doubles point."
UAB will remain in the state of Florida and travel to Stetson on Monday for a Noon ET (11 a.m. CT) match.
