BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB cross country team looks to build on last season's success with a competitive 2010 slate that features six meets, including two that are local. The campaign kicks off on Sept. 17 at the Mountaineer Open in Boone, N.C.
"We'll start our season with a great team trip centered around the meet at Appalachian State," UAB cross country coach Blake Boldon said. "It should be a great way to bring our team together and get ready for the big meets in the weeks to follow."
The Blazers continue their fall schedule at the Memphis Twilight Classic 5K hosted in Nashville, Tenn. on Sept. 25.
The Green and Gold will then return home and take a week off before the Southeast Cross Country Showdown hosted by Samford on Oct. 9 at Veterans Park in Hoover, Ala. The following weekend, UAB competes at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival on Oct. 16 in Fayetteville, Ark.
"Considering that we'll run a 6K at a national level meet like the Chile Pepper and we'll race the regional course at the Southeast Cross Country Showdown, we will be well prepared for the South Regional Championship," Boldon said. "The regional meet will be a great chance for us to compete against some of the best cross country teams in the country in front of a home crowd."
Prior to the regional meet, the Blazers will run at the Conference USA Championships hosted by Tulsa on Oct. 30.
The NCAA South Regional will be held at Veterans Park on Nov. 13, while the NCAA Championships are slated for Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.
"The focus this season is to be prepared for the conference meet and the South Region Championships," Boldon said. "We certainly have an eye on the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute in November, too."
