UAB Competed Among Talented Field At Pre-National Invitational

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The UAB cross country team competed at the Pre-National Invitational hosted by Indiana State on Sunday afternoon among a talented field featuring four nationally-ranked teams.
Third-ranked Florida State secured the meet’s title with 46 points, while No. 5 Georgetown tallied 99 points to finish as the runner-up. No. 18 Michigan took third place with 158 points, just two more than No. 4 Colorado (160).
UTEP’s Risper Kimaiyo, a junior from Iten, Kenya, won the individual meet title with a time of 20:19.UAB had four runners finish the 6K, but the Blazers did not have a team score.
Senior Rhiannon Johns was the top finisher for the Blazers completing the course in 21:43 to place 38th out of a field of 303 participants.
Senior Clara Cid clocked a time of 22:33 to place second for UAB and teammate Kristina Vaughn crossed the line in 22:50 to round out the Blazers’ top three runners. UAB’s fourth finisher was junior Sarah Hudak (23:36).
The Blazers return to action on Monday, Oct. 31 at the Conference USA Championships hosted by Rice in Houston, Texas. The 5K is slated for a 10 a.m. CT start.
