Johns Named UAB Student-Athlete Of The Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Rhiannon Johns, a senior on the Blazers’ cross country team, has been selected as the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week. This marks the second time she garnered the award, as she also earned the honor Sept. 29, 2010.
A mathematics major with a perfect 4.0 GPA, Johns is a three-time recipient of the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal and a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
In addition, she has been named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team for two consecutive seasons.
The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada native led the team to a sixth place finish in the Conference USA Championship held in Terre Haute, Ind. on Sunday, Oct. 31. Johns placed ninth individually with a time of 17:33.70, earning her second-team all-conference accolades.
Johns and the cross country team travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to compete in the NCAA Regional South Championship on Saturday. The 6K race is schedule to start at 11:15 a.m. CT at the Harry Pritchett Cross Country Course.
