BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Senior Rhiannon Johns was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Cross Country Team announced Friday by the league office. The award marks the third-straight year that Johns has received the league honor.
Johns is a model student-athlete as she continued to uphold her academic and athletic success throughout her last three years as a Blazer. The mathematics major maintains a 4.0 GPA and is a three-time recipient of the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal and three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
In addition, Johns was a 2010 Academic All-America Second Team track and field selection.
On the cross country course, Johns was a front-runner for UAB as she was the top finisher for the Blazers in all four meets in which she competed. The Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada native placed ninth (17:33.70) at the C-USA Championship, earning second-team all-conference honors.
She crossed the line 38th out of a field of 303 runners at the Indiana State Pre-Nationals with a 6K time of 21:43.00 and turned in a season-best 21:32.10 performance for a 27th-place finish at the NCAA South Regionals.
