Blazers Fall In Final Road Match At Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The UAB women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss Sunday afternoon at Middle Tennessee.
Paula Alvarez extended her personal winning streak to six matches and accounted for the Blazers' only point with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Marietta Bigus at No. 3 singles.
Middle Tennessee won each of the other five singles contests in straight sets.
UAB's Jenny Cape dropped a pair of close, 6-4 sets to the Blue Raiders' Lexi Brand. Evelien Strijker (No. 2) and Menanteau Moolman (No. 6) each also played a 6-4 set but lost to Middle Tennessee's Carla Nava and Alex Dachos, respectively.
Yuiri Nomoto (No. 1 ) and Taylor Coffey (No. 5) accounted for the other two singles victories for Middle Tennessee.
In doubles play, UAB's tandem of Strijker and Giorgia Romeo won at the top spot, but the Blue Raiders took the other two positions to claim the opening point.
UAB dropped to 6-10 with the loss, while Middle Tennessee improved to 7-8. The Blazers now return to Birmingham to close the regular season with three matches in three days, starting Thursday at noon CT against Chattanooga at the Lakeshore Tennis Center.
