BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB cross country team looks to improve on last season's success with a challenging 2011 schedule that consists of six meets. The campaign kicks off on Sept. 1 with a dual against cross-town rival Samford.
"We added a few pieces that I think can really make a big difference in where we finish at the end of the season," said first year head coach Tony Houchin.
One of the contests Houchin added in 2011 is the Auburn Invitational on Sept. 9. The Blazers will rest for three weeks before returning to action at the Notre Dame Invitational on Sept. 30 in South Bend, Ind.
The Green and Gold compete in the first 6k of the season on Oct. 16 at the Indiana State Pre-National Invitational located in Terre Haute, Ind. The Blazers will have two weeks off to prepare for the C-USA Championships on Oct. 29 hosted by Rice University in Houston, Texas.
The University of Alabama will host the NCAA South Regional on Nov. 12, while the NCAA Championships are slated for Nov. 21 in Terre Haute, Ind.
"I'm really excited for the upcoming cross country season," said Houchin, "The returners have all put in solid training this summer and are looking to improve on last year's performances."
