BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- After three weeks of rest the UAB cross country team is ready to continue action at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind. on Friday. The Blazers will run along the 5K Notre Dame Cross Country course in the Women’s Blue Division at 4:15 p.m. CT.
“This weekend’s meet is nationally one of the most competitive meets of the entire cross country season,” head coach Tony Houchin said. “It’s the kind of meet that people look forward to from the very beginning of the season.”
UAB will compete among a field of 28 teams, including six nationally ranked and three conference opponents in Rice, SMU and UTEP. The six ranked participants are No. 2 New Mexico State, No. 7 Forida State, No. 18 Arkansas, No. 22 Princeton, No. 28 Penn State and No. 29 BYU.
“We should get a good idea of where we stand both in the conference as well as in the region,” Houchin said. “With this being the first meet that we’re running full strength, I’m very excited for what the weekend holds.”
The Blazers placed fourth in its most recent competition at the Auburn Invitational. Senior Clara Cid finished third overall after crossing the line in a personal-best 4K time of 14:50.70.
Junior Sarah Hudak finished second for the Blazers and eighth overall with a personal-best 15:11.10 and senior Kristina Vaughn clocked a 15:32.60 to finish 16th.
