UAB Bowling Closes Play At Mid-Winter Classic

JONESBORO, Ark. -- The UAB women's bowling team went 1-2 Sunday in bracket play on the final day of Arkansas State's Mid-Winter Classic to finish the event in 15th place.
The Blazers, which also started the day in 15th, won their first match of the day against Texas Southern but then dropped the next two.
UAB rebounded from losing the first two games of its best-of-seven match against Texas Southern by winning four of the last five. The Blazers posted their highest single-game score of the day when it mattered the most with a 204 in the decisive game seven.
The Blazers then matched up with Elmhurst in their second match of the day, falling by a 4-1 score. UAB won the first game against Elmhurst but then lost the last four.
UAB then found itself matched up with Texas Southern again in its final match of the tournament. This time, it was Texas Southern that prevailed by a score of four games to two. Still, the Blazers finished ahead of TSU in the 16-team field.
Vanderbilt won the tournament by defeating host Arkansas State in the championship match. Central Missouri finished third, Nebraska fourth and Maryland Eastern Shore fifth.
This weekend's field was one of the most challenging in the country, featuring five teams ranked among the nation's top eight.
