Blazers Sweep Jacksonville State In Women's Tennis

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's tennis team won every match in both singles and doubles Thursday on the way to a 7-0 sweep of Jacksonville State at the UAB tennis courts.
The Blazers (5-6) overcame first-set losses at the top two singles positions and won each of the final four spots in straight sets to win for the fourth time in their past six matches.
Isabel Fernandez was a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 winner over Raisa Guasti at No. 1 singles, while Paula Alvarez pulled out a 2-6, 7-6, 6-2 victory over Raphaela Lima at No. 2.
Rachel Daniell notched a 6-3, 6-2 win over Rafaela Wenzel at the No. 3 position, and Menanteau Moolman topped Zoe Izinos, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 4.
Caroline Faught and Rachel Cohen also helped UAB to the sweep over JSU (3-8) with wins at the bottom two positions. Faught posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Danielle Kerdini at No. 5, while Cohen was a 6-0, 6-4 winner over Kelly Tomlin at No. 6.
The Blazers also won all three doubles matches on the day as the tandems of Alvarez/Fernandez, Daniell/Moolman and Faught/Sarah Witkowski combined to lose just six total games on the day.
UAB is back in action Saturday at 11:30 a.m. when the Blazers host Arkansas State at George Ward Park.
