Blazer Duo Named To C-USA All-Academic Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –UAB leftfielder Catherine Crawford and catcher Mandy Lowman were named to the 2012 Conference USA Softball All-Academic Team, announced the league office on Monday.
The honor marks the second of Crawford’s career. She is a four-time recipient of the C-USA Academic Medal, has earned UAB presidential honors (4.00 GPA) four times and has been named to the Dean’s List (3.6-3.99 GPA) three times. She carries a 3.89 GPA in psychology with a sociology minor. The Hueytown, Ala. native, started all 55 games this season and batting .325 with a team-best 13 doubles.
Lowman earns the all-academic honor for the third straight year, becoming the only UAB softball player to win the award three times. The senior owns a 3.76 GPA in mathematics. She is a four-time recipient of the C-USA Academic Medal and is a 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team honoree. The Huntsville, Ala. product, has played in all 55 games this season and is hitting .359 with 10 doubles, 11 home runs and 36 RBI.
The Blazers return to the diamond Thursday as the hosts of the 2012 Conference USA Softball Championship. Second-seeded UAB will take on No. 7 seed Memphis at 7 p.m. at the UAB Softball Field.
