Blazer Tennis Team At Southern Miss Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. ----- The UAB men's tennis team wrapped up first day action Friday at the Southern Miss Fall Invitational.
Seniors David Zimmerman and Tom Puetz, along with Auburn transfer Rafael Rondino, led the way for the Blazers at the USM Tennis Courts.
Zimmerman downed Anas Rouchdi of Troy at the No. 1 flight, 6-3, 6-1, while Puetz defeated the Trojans' Sami Ghorbel, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 3. Rondino won by a 6-4, 6-4 margin over Andre Stabile of Troy at the No. 2 position.
The Trojans were able to post wins over UAB in the lower half of the lineup. Daniel Bustamente downed the Blazers' Lucas Dirube, 7-5 6-3, at No. 4. At the No. 5 flight, Patrick Eichler won close one over UAB newcomer Luiz Felipe Pinto, 7-6, 7-6, at No. 5. UAB's David Cooper fell to Troy's Mansingh Athare, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6.
Play continues Saturday and concludes on Sunday.
