Bowling Knocks Off No. 8 Sam Houston State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. ---- The UAB bowling team started off the first day of the Central Missouri Bowling Invitational in impressive style, defeating No. 8 Sam Houston State on Friday night.
The Blazers competed in four matches in the Baker format during day one, featuring the upset of eighth-ranked Sam Houston State, 955-949.
Freshman Marisa DiPonio came up clutch in the 10th and final frame against Sam Houston State, getting a strike to help lead the Blazers to the victory.
On the day, UAB averaged a score of 181.96 per round, as the team bowled a total of 25 rounds over the course of five matches.
In the other match ups, UAB fell to Wisconsin-Whitewater (1,031-956), Nebraska (1,055-846) and Valparaiso (1,014-917). The Blazers also fired an 875 as a squad in their bye round.
UAB returns to the lanes tomorrow to compete in the second day of the three-day tournament.
