BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- After advancing to its first NCAA Super Regional, UAB (40-19, 19-4 C-USA) earned the No. 16 ranking in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and the No. 17 ranking in the ESPN.com/USA Softball final 2013 polls, the organizations announced on Tuesday.
The rankings mark the first time in the program history that the Blazers are ranked in either poll. UAB spent most of the season receiving votes in both polls.
The Blazers, who made their fourth straight NCAA appearance, emerged out of the Louisville Regional after defeating nationally-ranked UCLA twice and Louisville once to advance to the program's first-ever NCAA Super Regional where they fell to No. 2 Florida in consecutive games by one-run margins.
UAB is the lone Conference USA member to be ranked in the final polls. Tulsa, which was ranked No. 24 in the final regular season USA Today/NFCA poll, received votes in both final polls.
The Blazers also earned a program-best ranking of No. 29 in the final NCAA RPI, which was announced last week.
