Bowling Finishes 10th at Mid-Winter Invite

JONESBORO, Ark. – After a slow start to the weekend, the UAB bowling team earned a win over No. 7 Wisconsin-Whitewater on the final day of competition at the Mid-Winter Invitational to finish 10th overall.
UAB closed out the tournament with a record of 4-8 overall. The Blazers began the final day against Wisconsin-Whitewater in bracket play. The team put together a total pinfall of 1,004 to better Wisconsin-Whitewater's 879 in just five games.
In the match, UAB bowled a first round high score of 246. It advanced in the winner's bracket to face Valparaiso. The Blazers finished with a second round total of 1,222 across seven games, while Valparaiso took the win with a total of 1,337.
The team then faced Wisconsin-Whitewater for the second time on the day, but could not come away with the win. UAB finished with a total of 1,027, while Wisconsin-Whitewater posted a score of 1,118.
On the weekend, UAB earned two wins over top-10 ranked schools. The Blazers also defeated No. 8 Vanderbilt on Saturday. In that game, UAB posted of its highest team scores, with a 1,039 against Vanderbilt’s 982.
Individually, junior Marissa Ferreira led the team in shooting with a career-high 274 against Vanderbilt. Ali Long also bowled a career-high in that game with a 256.
The UAB bowling team will take a week off before traveling to the Red Flash Invitational in Altoona, Penn. The tournament will run Friday, Jan. 31 through Sunday, Feb. 2.
